Athletic Facilities Transition: Who’s Responsible

June 7, 2022

The end of the academic school year means a very specific transition for district-owned athletic facilities.

Every youth sports organization is seeking field time for every sport that keeps score. Unused district baseball/softball fields, large open areas for soccer, lacrosse, football, and other sports make schools a potential gold mine.

We encourage every district to be great community partners, but sharing your facilities also comes with some risk.

A complete and comprehensive contract with the terms Hold Harmless, Indemnification and Additional Insured properly transfers the financial responsibility to the party most able to control or prevent loss.

With all legal documents, consultation with your legal representation is strongly recommended before signing any agreement.
